Georgia DUI Attorney - Biography
Jeremy E. Citron is a principal with the Citron Law Group’s DUI CORPS, a boutique criminal defense firm that focuses primarily on the defense of individuals charged with DUIs. As a DUI trial firm it actively anticipates and prepares its clients’ cases with an eye toward eventual trial in an attempt to vindicate its clients and assert their Constitutional rights at all points of the criminal process, with a twist: that is, after a number of years working in other prominent DUI firms, Mr. Citron has set up a firm that is focused on the quality of life of its clients and attorneys with the mission of providing the capable, talented and tenacious defense of DUIs within a workable budget and price point for the client.
Mr. Citron is uniquely poised to execute this firm’s mission given his diverse background and experiences as an attorney.
He began his career with one of the largest law firms in the country, Holland & Knight, LLP, as a commercial and civil litigator in complex commercial matters, including bankruptcy, product liability, commercial collections & drafting and other, general business and governmental litigation. He received "classic" legal training and mentoring from some of the nation’s premier attorneys and, during that time, was made acutely aware of the importance of the client experience and satisfaction. Mr. Citron was also, in an unusual departure of training by a big law firm, fast-tracked into trial work, having second-chaired his very first jury trial five months out of law school. He progressed to becoming lead counsel in a number of bankruptcy matters that were actively litigated within his second year of practice and, finally, was awarded a fellowship with the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Inc., during which time he oversaw a case load of approximately 30 cases, seven of which went to trial over a three-month period. Prior to leaving Holland & Knight, Mr. Citron represented CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railways, AMTRAK, Chrysler Commercial Financing, Mercedes Commercial Credit, the CIT Corporation and Bridgestone/Firestone Tires during its tread recall litigation, including being placed on a team putting together presentations for both Congress and NHTSA.
During Mr. Citron’s fellowship with the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, he won the largest punitive damage award, $50,000, granted by the Fulton County Magistrate Dispossessory Court (up until that time) on a counterclaim for illegal and unsanitary conditions that was asserted after the landlord attempted to evict a tenant for unpaid rents of $250.00.
In order to pursue his abilities in a courtroom, Mr. Citron left Holland and Knight, and, shortly thereafter, joined the law offices of George A. Stein, later Stein & Ward, and flourished as an associate. He has, for years, assisted in the editing of Mr. Stein’s book on DUI law, which is designed for use by attorneys, prosecutors and judges as a reference tool for the rapidly changing world of DUI law. In this capacity, Mr. Citron was largely responsible for identifying new cases that changed the landscape of DUI litigation, overseeing a staff of five attorneys who edited the cases and put together summaries, and developing practice pointers that were included in the book.
Mr. Citron, prior to forming the DUI CORPS, was the managing attorney of the law office of Stein & Ward and had responsibilities for daily management decisions, client communication matters and, most importantly, strategy and tactics for many of the cases actually taken to trial and mentoring younger attorneys in the proper method to prepare and try the cases in front of juries.
As a result of his exceptional trial skills, Mr. Citron has been recognized as one of the most tenacious and capable DUI litigators locally. He has lectured to the State Bars of Georgia and New York on strategies for defending DUIs within the constraints of a client’s budget when it is not adequate enough to provide the full complement of resources necessary to fully combat a DUI. He was awarded the 2003 DODD award for the most amazing jury acquittal of the year given the factual scenario presented to him and has become known as a clever enough trial attorney who wins very difficult DUI cases that other attorneys have flatly refused to take to trial.
Mr. Citron, for the past six years, coached the Emory University School of Law’s mock trial team, annually teaching between 16 to 20 students trial skills and having taken the team to a fifth place national championship finish in 2005. Prior to that, he coached the mock trial team at Georgia State University as an assistant coach.
Mr. Citron is a 1998 honors graduate of Georgia State University College of Law, where he was on the Law Review as its symposium editor, its mock trial competition team, for which he competed in the national championships as a student, its sport and entertainment law society and, later its graduate leadership counsel. Prior to entering law school, Mr. Citron worked for the late Senator Paul Coverdell and was a fellow with the American Jewish Committee in its Washington, D.C. office. He is a 1993 graduate of Tulane University, having earned three varsity athletic letters during his time at this school.
Mr. Citron’s experience in editing a book and unique perspective on criminal law, given his civil background, places him in the unique position to lecture not only on the changing state of DUI and search & seizure law, but also to provide unique "out-of-the-box" strategies, based on his experience as a civil litigator, to the application of criminal cases and DUI cases.
